Unplug to Save Energy
February 10, 2014How many devices do you have plugged in at your home right now? The average household keeps 40 or more appliances, lamps and electronic devices plugged in all the time. Each of these is using electricity, even if they are turned off. In severe winters, such as the one we’re experiencing this year, if each of us would unplug items not in use it will give a huge boost to the energy grid. Obviously there are many items you need to keep plugged in, but here are some that can be plugged only as you need them: Toasters, coffee makers, stereos/radios, lamps, night lights, electric toothbrushes, blow dryers, curling irons, plug in room fresheners/scents, and camera chargers. Experts say that up to 30% savings can be seen from staying unplugged for non-essential items.
