Tankless Water Heaters
October 3, 2012Tankless water heaters are the new rave of the water heating industry.
So, what’s the big deal?
There are two large advantages. The first, being that these units heat water as needed. When you open a hot water faucet, the heater comes on and heats the water immediately. This eliminates the need for a storage tank. You only heat the water you use. The second advantage is that you will never run out of hot water. A conventional tank style water heater usually does not have the recovery time needed to take multiple showers/baths in a short amount of time. In addition, a tankless water heater also takes up less space and is more energy efficient.
So why doesn’t everyone install a tankless water heater?
- Cost; these units usually install for 2 to 3 times the cost of a conventional water heater. Depending on the brand and the amount of site work needed, an installation will cost $3,000-$4,500
- The homeowner must have natural gas or propane service. These units cannot run on electric or fuel oil.
