Take Pictures of Your Water Shutoff Valves

It’s a good idea to take pictures of all your water shutoff valves – for outside faucets, for water to bathrooms, water connections at washing machines, and at any water filtration systems. Then tape the pictures onto pieces of paper, write instructions on how to turn the valve to shut off the water flow and what areas in the house will be affected by turning the valve and tape the picture to the wall where the valve it.

That way everyone in your home will know what to do if there is ever an emergency such as a burst pipe, overflowing toilet or a leak.
