GFCI vs. AFCI vs. Standard Outlets

1 min read

Outlets protect your home, but not all are created equal. Upgrading improves safety and may be required by code.

GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)

  • Protects against electric shock in wet areas (bathrooms, kitchens)
  • Required by code in new construction

AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter)

  • Detects dangerous arcs that can cause fires
  • Required in bedrooms and living spaces

Standard Outlet

  • Basic power delivery
  • No special safety features

Recommendation

Upgrade to GFCI/AFCI where required or when renovating for maximum safety.

Schedule an electrical evaluation with Summers & Zims to ensure your outlets meet modern safety standards.
