Be Careful with Candles at New Year’s Eve Parties

New Year’s eve is a big party time, and at this time of year people often have candles burning to add to the festive atmosphere. Over the last 10 years, fires caused by candles have tripled, so here are some tips to keep you safe. Don’t leave candles unattended. Keep an eye on them and blow them out if they have burned down low. Keep them away from any place where a guest or family member might accidentally bump into them. Don’t sit them in areas with lots of people traffic. The “breezes” from people walking by causes flames to flicker in different directions. Keep them away from other holiday decorations. They may look nice sitting in a bed of greens, but it is a potential hazard. And most of all, be sure to blow out every candle before going to bed. Have a safe New Year’s!
