Things You Can Do to Protect Pipes from Freezing
January 20, 2014It’s never too late to take preventative action that protects you from having your pipes burst in cold weather. Take advantage of milder winter temperatures to have us come do an at-risk assessment of your pipes. We may be able to re route your pipes. We will also look for gaps or holes in outside walls that could cause problems so they can be caulked and sealed. We can add insulation with pipe sleeves that provide additional protection. There are some little things you can do during severely cold weather to help your pipes. Keep cabinet doors open under kitchen and bathroom sinks so more warm air reaches your pipes. Turn on a faucet or several faucets so they drip. That causes the water to flow, and flowing water won’t freeze as quickly as standing water. Opening a faucet also provides relief from excessive pressure that can build if there is an ice blockage. To have your pipes checked, call us at 610-593-5129.
