How to Avoid this Common Thanksgiving Disaster
November 21, 2013Did you know that more garbage disposals break down during Thanksgiving meal preparation than any other time of the year? With all the potato peels, vegetable and fruit trimmings, and other organic food wastes we create preparing Thanksgiving dinner, the garbage disposal works overtime. Don’t over-work your disposal. Get rid of potato peels in small batches instead of stuffing as much as possible in at one time. If you have banana peels from fruit salad, don’t put them in your disposal. They are mushy and tough. Put them in the garbage instead. Hard vegetable trimmings such as the bottom of a celery stalk can be too bulky for your disposal. And keep all turkey skin, fat, and bones out of it too. Have a disaster-free Thanksgiving.
